BIOGRAPHY
Giovanni Imparato (born 25 November, 1961, Naples, Italy) studied percussion with teachers of Conservatory, then delved the study and majored in Afro Cuban Rhythms and Instruments in Cuba with masters like Lazaro Ros, Goyo Hernandez, Justo Pelladito, Carlos Aldama Perez, Chino Angel Chang, Reinaldo Hernandez Guillermo Lopez Clemente, Nenè Alejandro Carvajal. He continued his studies in New York with John Amira and, in Africa (Senegal), with Sing Sing Faye di Dakàr. He has been interested in various forms of musical expressions such as Salsa, Jazz, Funky, Etnic, taking part in many shows as a performer, dancer, musician, singer and actor, and working with various italian and international artists: Ray Charls, Mina, Isaac Delgado, RIiccardo Cocciante, Richie Haven, Paco de Lucia, Chico Buarque, Nino d’Angelo, Lucio Dalla, Eros Ramazzotti, Steward Copeland, Mike Francis and Mystic Diversions, Giorgia, Sunlightsquare, Andrea Bocelli, Renato Carosone, Mia Martini, Eugenio Bennato, N.C.C.P. C. d’Angiò, Tosca, Massimo Ranieri, Gianni Morandi, Sal da Vinci, Gigi Finizio.
He has been teaching Cuban rhythms and instruments since 1980 at Saint Louis Music College, Rome.
He is a leading expert in Afro Cuban music, culture and religion; is Babalawo (initiated in regla de ifà), Santero (initiated in regla de osha) and Omoalàña (initiated in regla de añá) priest of Batà drum.
He currently plays in Renzo Arbore's Orchestra Italiana, XENIA Jazz Sextet, Neapolitan Contamination, Instantly Music Project,
Stokholm vs Napoli, Sunlighsquare Band, and in his own project TAMMUMBA.
Giovanni Imparato recorded, on his behalf, his firs album Yoruba in 1993 followed by Sensi (1995), Kuba Sound System Proyecto (2005), Bomba Cuba (2012).
